Botany Bay stepped in History was the site of a landing by James Cook of the HMS Endeavour in 1770. Cook's landing here marked the beginning of Britain's interest in Australia and in the eventual colonisation of this new southern continent. The land around the headlands of the bay are protected as Botany Bay National Park. Also within Botany Bay is Towra Point Nature Reserve.

Botany Bay got it's name from the great quantity of plants Joseph Banks and Dr. Solander discovered, thus giving it the name of Botany Bay".

Botany Bay is beautiful and unique. Kyeemagh is the start of the bayside walk all the way to Dolls Point.  Enjoy magical scenery of the bay, pine trees, the heads, white sandy beaches, all the activities of around La Perouse. The Kyeemagh trail goes to Cuwee Cove beach and then into the golf course, from which you can access Cape Banks for some great views of Botany Bay and the ocean. If you like to swim in the sea, this is a safer place to do so than surf beaches. It's a lot calmer here on days without a southerly swell, white sand all viewed by beautiful seaside houses and cafes.

Botany

Botany Bay is where Captain James Cook first landed on 29 April 1770, when navigating his way around Australia on his ship, the Endeavour. The ship's English botanist Joseph Banks and Swedish assistant botanist Daniel Solander, spent several days on shore collecting vast numbers of specimens, that were previously unknown in Europe. Cook's journals first referred to the bay as Sting Rays' Harbour, then later Botanist Bay and finally both these names were crossed out and replaced with Botany Bay. The suburb name comes from the bay it stands on.
